John William "Bill" Hibbler

March 12, 1929 ~ January 5, 2021 (age 91)


     John William "Bill" Hibbler, 91, of Elsie, MI, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI.

     Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI, on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:00 A.M., with Mr. Phil Beavers officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, MI at a later date.  The service will be available on Smith Family Funeral Homes Facebook page at the time of service.

     Bill was born in Petoskey, MI on March 12, 1929, the son of George Robert and Eva Mae (Bush) Hibbler. He graduated from Petoskey Public Schools.

     On February 11, 1950, Bill married Vera Elaine Wallis in Flint, MI. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage prior to her passing on November 9, 2006.

     Bill truly enjoyed mowing lawn, even mowing his yard at the age of 91. He liked to write poems and garden. Bill was especially gifted at painting pictures such as his painting of the Elsie Farmers' Elevator by the Maple River.  He loved wood working creating many different things.  Bill was an elder at Duplain Church of Christ and worked in maintenance at the church for many years.

     Bill is survived by six children: Janis (Ray) Fuller, John (Robin) Hibbler, Steve Hibbler, Stan (Kathy) Hibbler, Connie (Ron) Risley, and Dean (Jean) Hibbler; 19 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife Vera, great grandchild Tony, and 4 siblings: Ethan, Bob, Helen and infant brother Roy.
