Wayne Vincent Simmons

Wayne V. Simmons, age 73, of Sumner, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at his home.

Wayne was born August 1, 1939 to Archie and Margie (Higby) Simmons in Brant, Michigan. Wayne was employed as a welder for both Lobdell Emery where he worked for 15 years, and at Simons Iron and Metal where he worked for 20 years.

Wayne loved to fish and when he was younger he enjoyed hunting. He also enjoyed going to Sumner Center to play Euchre with his friends and attended New Haven Methodist Church. Wayne loved his children and grandchildren. He had a big heart and would help anyone in need. He liked old cars and caring for his sheltie dogs. He will be missed by all.

Wayne is survived by Nancy Riker; his children, Jeff Simmons of Sumner, Lilly Salsbury of Ithaca, Helen Cueny of Crystal Falls, Janice Grey of Iron River, Michigan,  Michigan,  Christopher Simmons of Blanchard; six grandchildren; sisters Wanda Bashens, Joyce Cragg, Wilma Ostrander, Linda Tissue, Connie Patterson; and brothers Archie Simmons and Donnie Simmons.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Simmons, parents, Margie and Archie, and his sister Mary.

Funeral services for Wayne will be 11am, Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Pastor John Hagerman will officiate and burial will follow at Chapel Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4pm and 6-8pm Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Funeral Home.
