Waneta Ward

Waneta Nemoine Ward, age 81, of Edmore, MI, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center, Alma, Michigan.

A cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held in the spring.   Burial will take place in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt, MI.

Waneta was born in DeWitt, Michigan on February 15, 1940, the daughter of George Wesley and Althea Irene (Baker) Clark.  She graduated from DeWitt High School with the class of 1958.  On May 24, 1958, Waneta married Rex Gaylord Ward in Clinton County, Michigan.  They were blessed with 51 years of marriage prior to his death on December 16, 2009.

Waneta's hands were always busy.  She loved sewing, crocheting, quilting and making gifts for others.  It was important to her that the babies in NICU had hats and she made many.  She enjoyed cooking and recently put together a cookbook of her favorite recipes for her family.  She always looked forward to times at the lake with as much family as could come. Waneta loved her family and dedicated her life to caring for them.  She was always a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen.

Waneta is survived by 5 children: Lucinda Low of St. Johns, MI; Randy (Teresa) Ward of North Dakota, MI; Wesley (Jane) Ward of Ovid, MI; Guy (Michele) Ward of Edmore, MI; and Victor (Angela) Ward of Elsie, MI; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and her best friend Darlene Baker.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rex, one sister Gladys Durfee, and brother Walter Clark.

Memorials may be made to Montcalm County Commission on Aging - PO Box 212, Stanton, MI 48888.  Online condolences may be made at www.smithfamilyfuneralhomes.com.  The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, Michigan.
