Waldo D. Johnson, age 90, of Ithaca, died Monday, June 9, 2014, at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his family.
Waldo was born June 17, 1923, in Bay City, the son of Harry W. and Mildred L. (Mouser) Johnson. He farmed in North Star Township for most of his life and worked at Wolverine World Wide in Ithaca for 30 years. He enjoyed spending his summers at his cabin at Houghton Lake, fishing with his children and grandchildren, He loved playing cards, singing, gardening and raising irises. He loved to sit on the porch and watch wildlife, crops and talking with family. Waldo had an infectious smile and a wonderful sense of humor. He was always upbeat, never complained about anything, and always looked at the bright side of life. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Waldo is survived by his five children, Glenda (Rex) Ernst of St. Johns, Donna (Bob) Rummer of Hillman, Scott (Denise) Johnson of Ithaca, Dan (Michele) Johnson of Ithaca, and Dawn (Mark) Butcher of Alma; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren; He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Johnson; his parents, Harry and Mildred (Mouser) Johnson; and his granddaughter, Heather Lynn Johnson.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Pastor Charles Seeley officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at the funeral home.
