Victor Francis "Vic" Cronkite

      Victor Francis "Vic" Cronkite, age 86, of Breckenridge, MI, entered into the arms of his Savior and was reunited with his loving wife, on Monday, May 23, 2022, at MyMichigan Medical Center - Midland, with his family by his side.

      A Graveside Service will be held at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge, MI, on Friday, May 27, 2022, at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Randy Brandon officiating.  Burial will take place at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge, MI.  Visitation will be held 5-7 P.M. on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI.

     Victor was born in Breckenridge, Michigan on March 6, 1936, the son of Clyde and Martha (Dunn) Cronkite.  He graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1954.  Vic proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for three years.

     On May 16, 1959, Vic married Carol J. Lewis at the First Baptist Church in St. Louis, Michigan. They were blessed with 57 years of marriage, prior to her passing on January 15, 2017.  Vic's faith was very important to him.  He was a kind and gentle Christian man who never hesitated to help anyone in need.  He and Carol were members of Community Baptist Church of Alma.

     Vic was an Industrial Arts teacher for many years in Breckenridge High School and St. Johns High School.  After retiring from teaching, Vic and Carol enjoyed crafting.  Together they traveled to craft shows.  Vic was a wood carver.  He was an avid antique car enthusiast and passed on that love to his family. At one time, he was a member of the Edsel Car Club.  He spent many hours working on his cars and recently taught his grandson Adam to drive his 1915 Model T.

     He is survived by his children: David Cronkite of St. Louis, MI; Mark (Lori) Cronkite of Mt. Pleasant, MI; Kim Cronkite of Breckenridge, MI; four grandchildren: Corissa Cronkite, Adam (Katie) Cronkite, Brian Cronkite, and John Klumpp.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol, grandson Tommy Painter, and siblings: Doris Cronkite, Ruth (Del) Romero, Burton (Bernice) Cronkite, and Ralph (Doris) Cronkite.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Baptist Church of Alma.  Online condolences may be made at www.smithfamilyfuneralhomes.com.  The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, Michigan.
