Verla P. Smith

Verla P. Smith, age 90, of Ithaca passed away February 11, 2016 at the Ashley Care Center.

Verla was born November 25, 1925 to Dell and Fern (Seeley) Shaw in Elba Township. She married Robert Leon Smith in 1944. He preceded her in death in 2008.

Verla was the head cook at the Big Boy restaurant  in Alma for many years. She also helped her husband Bob a great deal on their farm in Sickles, sold Avon, and was a 4H leader. She loved to travel with Bob, by both camper and motorcycle. She also enjoyed square dancing.

Verla is survived by her sons, Daryl (Phyllis) Smith of Ithaca, Terry Smith of Glendale, Arizona, Robert (Nancy) Smith of Ithaca; grandchildren Kelly (Paul) Husted, Stephen Smith, Lori Smith, Brandon (Sarah) Smith, Chris (Jill) Smith, Cheryl (Will) Schmierer; six great grandchildren; and her sister, Minnie Scutt. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Dell and Fern; sisters Violet Johnson, Helen Boulis, Edna Johnson; and brother Harry Shaw.

Funeral services for Verla will be 11am Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Jo Jones will officiate, and burial will follow at Hamilton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4pm and 6-8pm, Sunday, February 14 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ithaca Senior Activity Building.
