Tom was born on December 21, 1942, in Alma, MI, to John Joseph and Eleanor Joanne (McLaughlin) Trgina. He was a graduate of St. Louis High School. On September 15, 1990, he married the love of his life, Darlene Herald, at their family home in St. Louis.
Tom dedicated most of his life to farming, a passion that defined him. He found joy in the rhythm of the seasons and took great pride in tending to his land. Some of his happiest moments were spent in the fields—especially during harvest, riding in the combine with his grandson Zach. Those rides weren’t just about farming; they were about storytelling, laughter, and passing down a lifetime of knowledge and tradition.
An avid outdoorsman, Tom loved hunting and traveled across the country and around the world on hunting adventures. Each trip added a memory, a story, and a treasured addition to his trophy room—something he was incredibly proud of. He also enjoyed caring for his beautiful lawn and landscaping.
He was active member at the Moose Lodge and CSA in St. Louis, where he found joy in good company, good conversation, and sharing a beer with the friends he cared about.
He is survived by his wife Darlene Trgina of St. Louis, MI; son Ted and Kim Trgina of St. Louis, MI; step-son Jeff Herald of Florida; grandchildren: Zach and Madison Trgina of St. Louis, MI, Kyle Trgina of Alma, MI, Matthew and Rebecca Courser of Detroit, MI, Tre' Hovey of Rosebush, MI, Courtney Monroe of Merrill, MI, Jesse Browne of Grand Rapids, MI, Ethan Herald of Ludington, MI, and Riley Herald of Ludington, MI; great-grandchildren: Eleanor Trgina, Waylon Trgina, Paisley Browne and Elliah Courser; sister Joanne, and Russ Jones of St. Louis, MI. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Paul and Maria Trgina, step-children: Scott Herald, and Amiee Herald also his unborn granddaughter Paige Herald.
His presence will be deeply missed, but his stories, his laughter, and his love for the simple things in life will live on in all who knew him.
