Thomas Lowell Glynn

Thomas L. Glynn, age 80, of Ithaca, died Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Schnepp Health Care Center in St. Louis, with his family at his side.

Tom was born in North Star Township on January 22, 1934, the son of John and Fannie Marie (Page) Glynn.  After graduating from Ithaca High School, he served as a tank mechanic in the Army during the Korean War.  Returning home after serving his country, Tom worked for the Gratiot County Road Commission before going to work for the State of Michigan as a methods analyst for the Department of Transportation, which he did for over 30 years.  Tom loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and canning.  He helped each of his grandsons get their first deer.  He always had his fishing pole with him, even when traveling in his state car.  He owned and operated The Ranch House north of Ithaca from 1980 until 1996.  He always loved to do the cooking on weekends, when he could make his pan fried chicken and fried gizzards.  At home he also loved to cook a lot of wild game.  Tom made numerous trips to hunt out west or to fish up north, and it was well known that the Glynn camp always had the best food.  For several years, Tom had been a member of Pheasant’s Forever.  Although he was very quiet, he was a kind man who was always willing to help.

Tom is survived by his companion, Rhonda Brandal; his children, Debra (Roger) Zimmerman and Kelly (Laura) Glynn both of Ithaca; three grandsons, Eric, Steven, and Lucas; his brothers and sisters, Richard (Ruth) Glynn of Saginaw, Jeanne Glynn of Ithaca, Mike Glynn of Ithaca, and Judy (Ron) Stone, of Ithaca; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Tom will be 3 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ithaca, with Rev. Joseph Novak officiating.  Interment will follow in North Star Cemetery.  Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 Wednesday at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, and from 2 p.m. until time of the service at the church on Thursday.  Memorial contributions may be made to Gratiot County Commission on Aging.
