Thomas (Nestor) E. Zamarron

February 20, 1927 – April 26, 2017

Thomas (Nestor) E. Zamarron, age 90, of Ithaca, died Tuesday, April 26, 2017.  Tom was born February 20, 1927 to Trinidad and Amelia Zamarron in Ashley, Michigan.  He married Mary Diane St. Pierre June 5th, 1954 at Saint Casimir Church in Lansing, Michigan.

Tom is a veteran of the Korean War, where he earned several medals including the Presidential Unit Citation, The National Defense Service medal, The Korean service medal and bronze star attachment (double) and The United Nations Service medal.  He served 3 years as an Army corporal.  The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest.

Tom taught at the Wheeler country school of Ithaca and Ionia schools.  He also worked at Montgomery Ward’s in Alma, for fifteen years before retiring as a power house engineer at Motor Wheel Corporation, after 24 years.  After retirement Tom enjoyed having coffee with his friends, sitting on his front porch doing crossword puzzles, and enjoying time spent with his family, including visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Tom was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife Mary; children Steve Zamarron of Lowell, Jim Zamarron of Rockford; grandchildren Jason (Tracy) Zamarron, Angie Zamarron, Janna (Jason) Garcia, Trisha Zamarron, Mindy (Dave) Walsh, Tara Zamarron, Lawrence Zamarron; great grandchildren Luke, Ty and Trevor Zamarron, Bailey Bunting, Justus and Ashlynn Zamarron, Brycen and Hudson Walsh, Ryleigh, Jameson Hull; and brothers Ralph (Sara) Zamarron, Dan Zamarron, and Ted (Carol) Zamarron.

He is preceded in death by his sons Tom and Larry Zamarron; Sisters Emily, Juanita, Louise, Mary Ann; Brothers Dave, Bob, George, Ben.

Visitation will be Sunday April 30 ^th from 2 - 8 p.m. at Barden Funeral home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m.  Monday, May 1 ^st , 2017, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Ithaca.  Burial will follow at Ithaca Cemetery.  A Luncheon will follow the burial at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
