Thelma A. Cheney, age 95, died peacefully at the home of her daughter in Stockbridge MI, on December 5th, 2018, with her family at her side.
Thelma was born in Ithaca on October 21st, 1923, the daughter of Alfred Amos and Edna Gladys (Wilson) Plank. On May 8th, 1943 she married Ralph W. Cheney. He preceded her in death on July 7th, 1980.
Thelma was quick witted and was always working with her hands. She enjoyed cooking and needlework, along with many other hobbies. She also taught cake decorating for several years and made wedding cakes for her family. Even when her children had families of their own, she was always concerned about their well being. With all the love in her heart, it's easy to see that family meant everything to her.
Thelma is survived by her children, David Cheney of Copemish, Douglas Cheney of Commerce Township, and Patricia (W. Michael) Tuck of Stockbridge; 4 grandchildren, Mikeal (Monica), Patti, Jennifer (Ayhan), Katelyn (Brian); 3 great grandchildren, Hannah, Noah, Linken; and her sisters, Carol Miller and Ruth Ann Beck. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Ed Chase; and her brother and sisters, Fern Lover, Delores "Jean" Smith, Norma Benner, Betty Mae Chase, Beverly Thayer, Edward "Bud" Chase, Dawn Sisco; daughter in-law Deborah Cheney; and grandson Corey Lutrell.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 15th, 2018 at Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with the service at 1 p.m. Thelma will be laid to rest by her husband's side at the New Haven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Foundation, Lupus Foundation, or another organization of your choice.
