Sylvia McKay

Sylvia K. McKay, age 83, of Ovid, Michigan, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021, at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid, Michigan, with Rev. Fr. Anthony Brooks presiding.  Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, Michigan. Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Sylvia was born in Lansing, Michigan on June 15, 1938, the daughter of Harlan Randall and Emma (Penoyer) Halpin.  She graduated from Resurrection High School in Lansing, Michigan.  On June 2, 1956, she married Dean McKay in Lansing, Michigan. Dean passed away on August 3, 1998.

She was a telephone operator in her earlier years and then she worked for an answering service in Lansing, Michigan. She enjoyed going to lunch and dinner with friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to her and she enjoyed spending time with them.  She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

She is survived by two daughters: Daneen and Todd Carroll of Elsie, Michigan; and Jill and Tod Herblet of Ovid, Michigan; her son Michael McKay of Lansing, Michigan; four grandchildren: Steven and Jessica Miller, Devan and Jacob Munson, McKayla and Jordan Bultema, and Kathleen and Samuel Frink; and eight great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Dean, and two grandsons: Nicholas Greenhoe and Gregory Greenhoe.
