Susan Grace (Faurot) Halcomb

St. Louis

       Susan Grace Halcomb, age 89, of St. Louis, MI, passed away Monday, April 8, 2024, at her home with family by her side. 

      A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, April 26, 2024. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 3:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis, MI at a later date. 

     Susan was born in Alma, Michigan on March 17, 1935, the daughter of Aubrey and Ednamae (Husted) Faurot. Susan graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1953. During high school Susan was active in cheerleading, glee club, Spanish club, sports committee, yearbook staff, and was the class secretary. After graduation she attended Lansing Business College and graduated with bachelor’s degree in business.  She married Joseph Halcomb on June 26, 1955, at the St. Louis United Methodist Church, St. Louis, MI. She hired in with McClure Oil in Alma and worked there for 10 years. 

      Susan later stayed home to raise her four boys, attend all of their school activities and events, and took care of their home. She was a very supportive sports mom, making sure her kids had everything they needed for their games. Susan was very active in PTO & was in sports booster leadership while her boys were in school. In later years she made many care packages with food and treats to mail to her sons & their friends. 

      Susan enjoyed reading, poetry, journaling/writing and scrap booking. She liked feeding her birds, baking, cooking, sewing, and watching the Hallmark Christmas specials. She was an avid sports fan and liked watching college football, college basketball, women's fast pitch softball, college baseball, pro baseball, and pro football. She had a love for all animals and enjoyed supporting many humane societies and local animal rescues. She was a member of the St. Louis United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, was involved with reunion committees and organizing food for funeral luncheons. Susan spent many years as a Den Mother leading cub scouts in their home.   

     She is survived by her husband Joseph Halcomb of St. Louis, MI; sons: Steve Halcomb of Grand Rapids, MI; Scott and Tina Halcomb of Athens, GA; and Todd Halcomb of St. Louis, MI; granddaughter Alexandria Marie and Anthony Halcomb-Winans of Eaton Rapids, MI; great-grandson Arden Winans; nephew David Faurot of Punta Gorda, FL; niece  Beth Ann Faurot of Lake Zurich, IL; sister-in-law Joyce and Dick Tivchon of Portland, MI; and Tivchon niece & nephews: Carrie, Pat and Kevin.   She was preceded in death by her parents, son Tim Halcomb, grandson Joey Halcomb, brother and sister-in-law Milton and Margie Faurot, and nephew Darold Faurot. 

    Memorials may be made to the Gratiot County Commission on Aging, 515 South Pine River Ithaca, MI 48847 or Oakley Jae's Family Fun Day for Rett Syndrome, C/O Shannon Madden.
