Stewart Eugene Iler, I

     Stewart Eugene Iler, I, age 78, of Alma, MI, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023, at his home.

     Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, from 3:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

     Stewart was born in Washington Township, Michigan on October 29, 1944, the son of Durwood Benjamin and Helen Emmaretta (Johnson) Iler. Stewart graduated from Fulton High School with the class of 1962.  On September 1, 2006, Stewart married Margaret Marie Egan in Ithaca, Michigan. They were blessed with sixteen years of marriage.

     Stewart retired from General Motors in August of 2000 after thirty-six years.  After retirement, he enjoyed driving limousine and a school bus for Fulton Schools.  He enjoyed bowling, fishing, attending car shows, monster truck races, and spending time with his grandchildren.  He loved traveling; one of his favorite trips was with Margie out west visiting the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley.  Stewart had a great sense of humor.  He could strike up a conversation with anyone and would tell complete strangers jokes that made them laugh. 

   He is survived by his wife Margaret Egan of Alma, MI; son Stewart Iler II of St. Johns, MI; daughter Brandy Broom of St. Johns, MI; five grandchildren: Joni, Stewart III, Rayne, Samantha, Elizabeth, and Hope; and one great-grandson Xander.  Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Jim (Barb) Iler, sisters: Joyce (Kenneth) Taylor, Joy (Lyle) Chick, and Beverly Schollaert.
