Stanley Pewoski

Stanley R. Pewoski died Friday, November 28, 2003 at the age of 57. He was born in Lansing, Michigan on March 29, 1946, the son of Stanley and Helen (Suchek) Pewoski. He was a graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns and MSU in East Lansing. In his younger days, Stan lived and worked on his father’s farm. His first employment was at The Aderson’s in Maumee, Ohio. Stan returned to St. Johns and hired in to Oldsmobile Plant 2 now known as the Lansing Craft Centre where he started his union career as a Union Officer for Local 1618 UAW. He was on the Shop Committee, as well as four-time elected Chairperson of the Shop Committee and later received a special assignment from the UAW International Union. Stan’s belief was “People are GM’s greatest assets” and his union strength came from the membership. He has lived at his Dimondale residence since 1975.

He married Karon R. Colbath on May 25, 1973 and they renewed their wedding vows on October 21, 2003 in the chapel at U of M Hospital with Rev. Fr. Tom McDevitt. They raised Jon and Cindy from Stan’s previous marriage, as well as their daughter, Kristen R. Pewoski. Stan was preceded in death by his father, Stanley J. Pewoski who drowned in 1966, his son, Matthew S. Pewoski who died May 24, 1971, his much loved brother, Larry L. Pewoski who died in 2000 and special uncle, Henry “Hank” Pewoski who died in 2002.

Stan is survived by his wife of 30 years, Karon Pewoski of Dimondale, son, Jon (Michelle) Pewoski of Hastings, two daughters, Cindy Pewoski of Drummond Island and Kristen Pewoski of Dimondale, two proud grandsons, Michael and Nathan Pewoski, his mother, Helen (Earl) Michaud of Dimondale, Aunt Cecila and Uncle Henry Skopek of Zephyrhills, Florida, Aunt Mary Pewoski of Grayling, plus many loved family members and friends. Stan’s wishes were to be cremated.

Memorial Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns with the Rev. Fr. Tom McDevitt and UAW Chaplain Jim Gleason officiating. Family and friends can get together to share fun times from 5:00 – 8:00 on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Leukemia Foundation or Ingham Hospice Services.
