Shirley Darlene (Lockwood) Baese

     Shirley Darlene Baese, age 95, of Elsie, MI, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in Fenton, MI. She was a resident of Grandpas' Assisted Living House. 
      A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Elsie, on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Phillip Rogers officiating. Burial has taken place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held from 10:30 A.M. until the time of the service at the church. 
      Shirley was born in Uhrichsville, Ohio on April 1, 1928, the daughter of Vayne M. and Amy Byrl (Hicks) Lockwood. She graduated from Dansville Agricultural School in 1946. On February 29, 1952, she married James Versil Baese in Elsie, Michigan. Versil passed away on December 6, 2013.
      Shirley worked at Universal Electric for several years and enjoyed driving school bus for Ovid Elsie Schools for 24 years. She was an active member of the Elsie First Baptist Church. Shirley was a seamstress and enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for all occasions. She loved and will be remembered for her homemade pies and fruitcakes. She also loved her cats. Shirley and Versil had enjoyed traveling all 50 states and three memorial trips to Italy with the 10th Mountain Division.
      She was preceded in death by her husband in 2013. She is survived by her daughter Geri Kay and Tom Hallin of Howell, MI; two grandchildren: Rebecca Smith Hallin and Timothy Hallin; great-grandchildren: Layla Hallin, and Evelyn Smith; sister Joy Goodman of Portland, MI; brother Lowell Lockwood of Elsie, MI; sisters-in-law Carolyn Lockwood of Elsie, MI; and Wanda Lockwood of St. Johns, MI. She is also survived by many sisters and brothers-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Barbara Townsend, brothers: Jack Lockwood and Larry Lockwood.
