Sandy Burgett, age 55, of Marion Springs, died Monday, October 26, 2015, at her home, with her family surrounding her.
Sandy was born May 5, 1960, the daughter of Richard Frank and Florene Dora (Decker) Tupica. IN 1984 she moved back from Kentucky as a single parent with three small children. Not knowing what to do to support herself, her brothers suggested she become an EMT and work for the ambulance. She took the class, and the rescue work got in her blood. From 1984 until 2005 she worked for Gratiot Ambulance, later MMR, and also volunteered with Ashley Rescue. Many times Sandy and her father were the only ones available to go on a rescue run.
Sandy enjoyed going for rides at night and looking for deer. She loved her grandchildren, and appreciated that Sky was her little doctor. She was thankful for the kindness and support of the wonderful people from her small community, the personal visits and words of comfort, as well as all of the supportive posts on social media.
Sandy is survived by Terry Turner; her children, Brandie (Josh), Christopher (Nicole), and Roy Gene (Heather); her grandchildren, Kadence, Savannah, Nathan, Hunter, and Sky; and her brothers, Rich (Lorri) Tupica, Dave Tupica, and Larry (Kemm) Tupica. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her grandson, Christian.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 29, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday. Interment will follow in Hamilton Cemetery. Per Sandy's request everyone is invited to dress casually for the funeral, preferably in Michigan State green and white.
