Samuel "Sam" Romero

Samuel “Sam” Romero, age 83, of Ovid, MI, passed away Monday, June 3, 2019, at Memorial Healthcare, Owosso.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI, at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 6, 2019, with Pastor Melanie Young officiating. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Samuel was born in Hebronville, TX on November 3, 1935, the son of Placido and Paula (Berlanda) Romero, the eighth of nine children. On June 7, 1958, Sam married Sharon Kay Parker in St. Johns, Michigan. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage.

Sam worked as a spot welder at General Motors for over 31 years before his retirement in 1996. He was a window washer in the Lansing area for 17 years prior to working for GM and then again in retirement.

Sam liked to ride his bike around Ovid.  He enjoyed working and was always busy in his yard or around his house. Sam loved to cook and made amazing homemade tortillas. He was a lifelong Tigers Fan, loyal to the end.

The family would like to thank the awesome caregivers who have cared for Sam over the last couple years, especially Alicia McMillan and Ranae Barber. They would also like to thank the staff at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso who has cared for Sam as if he was their own loved one.

Sam is survived by his wife of 61 years Sharon Romero of Ovid, MI; his son Sidney (Brenda) Romero of Ovid, MI; 5 grandchildren:  Jillian Morris, Jamian Romero, Sidney (Rebecca) Romero Jr., Michael (Ashley) Clemons, and Jocelyn (Eric Jenkins) Clemons; several great grandchildren, brother Narciso (Felipa) Romero, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda (Rick) Lake, sister-in-law Laura Johnson, and several cherished nieces and nephews. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, son Samuel Romero, Jr., and siblings: Victor, Elias, Max, Louis, Lola, and twin sisters.
