Ruth Gomez

     Ruth Mae Gomez passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024, at the age of 98.
     The family will receive friends at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, from 1-4 P.M. on Friday, August 16, 2024, for a Memorial and Celebration of Life. There will be a time of sharing at 2:30 P.M. If you would like please wear shades of blue in honor of Ruth.
     Ruth was born October 17, 1925, in St. Johns the daughter of Edward and Norah (Miller) Fleischer. She married George Gomez Sr. on May 3, 1948, in Napoleon, Ohio and he preceded her in death on November 28, 2002, after 54 years of marriage.
     Ruth was a farm girl, a waitress at the Busy Bee and Chatterbox, a dietitian at Lansing General Hospital, and housekeeper at Hazel I. Findlay Manor. Ruth was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, a detailed storyteller, and had a passion for gardening, fishing and bonfires.
     She is survived by her children: Bonnie (Leonard) St. John of Perry, MI; and Mary Halsey of Lansing, MI; her brother Ray (Karen) Fleischer of St. Johns, MI; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, nine great-great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband George, her son George "Butch" Gomez, Jr., her brother Fred (Betty) Fleischer, one sister Hazel Overmeyer, her brother Carl Fleischer, and grandchild Leonard St. John Jr.
