Russell Albert McCoy, aged 77, beloved husband, cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and long-time resident of St. Johns passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Russell, or Russ to anyone who knew him, was born in Salt Lake City, Utah January 24, 1948. He was one of five children.
After serving in the United States Marines, Russell settled in Dayton, Ohio beginning his career in electrical sales. Russ was an entrepreneurial spirit who was able to follow through on anything he put his mind to. He started many successful businesses throughout his lifetime. Russ was a loving husband of 50 years to his wife Adele, wonderful father to daughter Kathleen and son-in-law Paul, daughter Julie and son-in-law Nathan, daughter Michelle and son-in-law Joe, and son Kent and daughter-in-law Rebecca. Russell was the most amazing grandfather to Taylor, Rebecca, Emma, Kate, Elijah, Molly, Caleb, John, Stephen, Madalyn, and Gabriel, and his Great-Grandchildren Georgia and her brother who is on the way. He was adored by his sisters, Maureen, Kathy and Colleen. He will also be missed by his nephews Troy, Scott, Kent, Terry, and his niece Heather, as well as his brother-in-law Donn Aregood and sister-in-law Janet and their children Tami, Jessica, and Lauren.
Russell was a devout leader in the St. Johns community. He was an Ordained Minister and faithful servant to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to God be the Glory. He and his wife planted an Assemblies of God Church in St. Johns. Applying his entrepreneurial mind to fulfilling his ministry, he and Adele founded the Basic Needs Center in downtown St. John, devoting 15 years to serving thousands of families in Clinton County. His legacy of influence in the community will be felt for many years to come. Russell was also pre-deceased by his father Donald H. McCoy, his mother Florence Hughes, his father-in-law Richard Aregood and his mother-in-law Frances Aregood, his sister Barbara, and Great-Grandson Abel, who we are certain was there to welcome Russ home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to The Basic Needs Center, 213 Clinton Avenue, St. Johns, Michigan 48879 so that they may continue the work that was so important to Russ.
