Royce Deland Aldrich, age 100, of Wheeler, MI, entered into his eternal rest on August 24, 2025. A devoted father, cherished grandpa, and great-grandpa, his century-long life was marked by a strong work ethic, quiet faith, kindness, and unwavering love for his family.
He was born April 10, 1925 in Lafayette Township, where he learned the value of perseverance and integrity while working on the family farm. After graduating from Ithaca High School in 1942, he worked laying pipeline and in manufacturing before joining Consumers Power where, among other things, he helped build the central Michigan power grid as a lineman. Over the next 39 years, he faithfully served, retiring as an electrical serviceman.
In 1944, Royce married his “together forever” wife, Frances Goschka, who preceded him in death in 1989. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Patricia, his parents Arlon and Lillian Aldrich, and his siblings Clare Aldrich and Kathleen Conklin.
He is survived by his son, Leonard Aldrich (dearest friend Sue Grigar); daughter Debra (Rodney) Kirgis; granddaughters: Carrie (Chet) Ames and Tracy (Nick) Pressley; his namesake great-grandson Elias Deland Ames; and twin great granddaughters Raelyn and Hadley Pressley. He is also survived by his brother Grant (Mildred) Aldrich, Sisters Joyce Davis and Agnes Gross as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Blessed with an extraordinary memory, Royce carried with him the stories of generations—always ready to recall details that brought joy, laughter, and reflection to those around him. His recollections were not only a gift but also a way of connecting hearts and preserving the beauty of shared history.
