Romaine Lester Allen was born July 11, 1931 to Howard Wing Allen and Murley Blanche (Yarnell) Allen in rural North Star Michigan. He went home to be with the Lord on July 29 th in Carson City, Michigan at 88 years of age. Romaine was the 5 th of 6 siblings born to Howard and Blanche.
Growing up on the family farm outside of North Star, he farmed with his brothers and Dad for many years, eventually going to work on the pipeline as a proud member of the Operating Engineers Local 324. For many years his work took him to most all the United States as well as overseas to Libya.
On March 22, 1952 Romaine married Marilyn Jean Stevens in St. Johns, Michigan. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage and had 4 children. Steve (Linda Bukoski Eddy), Cindy (Bill) Stapleton, Marcia (John) Roberts, Kurt (Della) Allen.
Romaine was a member of the Ithaca United Brethren Church.
He enjoyed traveling and seeing new places, tinkering on vehicles and equipment. Family was his heart and he enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.
Romaine was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother in law Virgil and Ivah Stevens, brothers Duane (Frances) Allen, Denzil Allen, Cecil Allen, sister Maxine Allen and son Steve Allen.
Romaine is survived by his wife Marilyn, daughters Cindy (Bill) Stapleton, Marcia (John) Roberts, son Kurt (Della) Allen.
Grandchildren Amy (Bobby) Grudzien, Seth (Kelly) Stapleton, Luke (Jillian) Stapleton, Hannah (Glenn) Purvis, Eric Allen, Steven (Samantha) Allen, Jayce Allen, Sadie (Jake) Zavala, Trey (Whitney) Allen, Creed (Kaitlyn) Stapleton, Gage (Chastity) Gavenda.
Great Grandchildren Azia, Carson, Drostan, Conlan, Chloe, Anavieve, Estes, Mesah, Sperry, Zeiss, Theodore, Gracie, Olivia, Julia, Jayden, Selah, Jahvid, Emairah, Dakota and Kail.
Brother Maynard (Maryanne) Allen, sister in law Rebecca Allen, sister in law Laura Allen, brother in law Don (Joanne) Stevens and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a service of remembrance for Romaine at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 10, at the North Star Hall, with visitation starting at 2 p.m. and concluding at 5 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gratiot County Commission on Aging.
