Roland Neil "Ron" Gallagher

     Roland Neil "Ron" Gallagher, age 88, of Ovid, MI, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024, at Comfort Care, Chesaning, Michigan. 
     Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 4, 2024, with his nephew, Jeremy Gallagher officiating. Burial will take place at Fairfield Township Cemetery, Elsie, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
     Ron was born in Middleton, Michigan on August 24, 1935, the son of Olen Judd and Evelyn Viola (Smith) Gallagher. Ron married Edna Elizabeth (Walsh) LaFountain on May 2, 1998, they were married at Shepardsville Church in Ovid, MI. Edna passed away on August 20, 2001.
     Ron retired from General Motors on December 31, 1998 and was a member of the U.A.W. Local #652. Ron was a jack of all trades and did many things throughout his life including, farming, drove milk truck in his family business and owned/operated a gas station in Perrinton.  He was a member of the Perrinton Volunteer Fire Department for many years and coached softball in Perrinton for 19 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. 
     Ron looked forward to morning visits to Mary's Country Kitchen to have coffee with friends. He enjoyed several years of bowling, fishing and deer camp with the guys. Ron also enjoyed reading, puzzles, mowing lawn and bird watching. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. 
     He is survived by his children: Ronna Gallagher, Lisa Peters, Jeff (Kathy) Gallagher, Kristin Lance (Troy Tatroe), Cynthia LaFountain, Vicky (Daniel) Pumford, Barbara (Glen) Nethaway, John (April)LaFountain, Teresa (Darryl) Hornbeck, brother John (Jerilou) Gallagher, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, granddaughter Shelbie Peters, grandson Eric Perry, and his siblings: Les Smith, Garry (Kathy) Gallagher, Barbara (James) Iler, and James (Mary) Gallagher.
