Robert "Bobby" Brian Gilroy, age 76, of Dimondale, MI, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. and again on Saturday from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. The family requests you come dressed casually in your favorite sports team shirt, and jeans.
Bobby was born in Brimley, MI on August 1, 1948, the son of Robert Nelson and Catherine (Charles) Gilroy. He graduated from Holt High School and went on to Michigan State University to obtain his bachelor’s degree in Business Associate & Labor Relations. Bobby married Debra Fata on September 21, 2002, at their home. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Bobby retired from the State of Michigan Department of Civil Service in June of 2010. He was an avid MSU, Detroit Lions and Tigers fan. Bobby loved the many Chevy pickups he had throughout the years. He enjoyed time outdoors hunting, fishing, and golfing. Most of all, he loved time surrounded by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Debra Gilroy of Dimondale, MI; his children: Jenifer and Jeff Taylor of Surprise, AZ; Jill Gilroy of Glendale, AZ; Jacob Gilroy of Charlotte, MI; Shawn Kraus of Lansing, MI; and Tonya Thompson and fiancé Charles Johnson of Ft. Worth, TX; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, with one more on the way. He is also survived by his siblings: Linda and Tom Wright of DeWitt, MI; Sherry and Terry Sehlke of St. Johns, MI; Todd and Jeanie Gilroy of St. Johns, MI; brothers and sisters-in-law: Frank and Trish Fata of Ononadaga, MI; Michael and Deb Fata of Mason, MI; step-mother Phyllis Gilroy of St. Johns, MI; step-siblings: Sharon and Jack Woodhams of St. Johns, MI; Kathy and Ron Shepard of Swartz Creek, MI; Linda and Dan Blair of Traverse City, MI; Teresa and Tom Villareal of St. Johns, MI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dean Gilroy, niece Tara Gilroy, and step-brother Jim Bappert.
