Rev. Fr. Donald Wieber, a beloved priest of Our Lord went home to be with God on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Grace Haven Assisted Living, St. Johns, Michigan.
Fr. Donald was born on October 18, 1930, and raised at the family home in rural Fowler, Michigan. He was baptized and attended elementary school at Most Holy Trinity Parish. From there he attended St. Joseph Seminary in Grand Rapids, St. Mary of the West Seminary in Cincinnati, and St. John Provincial Seminary in Plymouth. He was ordained a Roman Catholic priest for the Diocese of Lansing on June 1, 1957.
Fr. Donald served as an Assistant Pastor at St. Mary Parish in Mount Morris, St. Monica Parish in Kalamazoo, and St. Mary’s Parish in Jackson. In June 1968, Fr. Donald was appointed pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Hartford. When the Diocese of Kalamazoo was created in July 1971, he was incardinated in that diocese. In 1974, he was appointed pastor at St. Mary Parish in Marshall; in 1981, pastor of St. Mark’s Parish in Niles; and in 1991, as pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Watervliet.
Fr. Donald retired in 2006, moving to a small home in Coloma, MI. He continued in ministry, celebrating weekend Masses at Saints Cyril and Methodius Church in the Gun Lake area. In all the parishes he served, Father endeavored to be a source of spiritual encouragement to all he ministered to. In 2017, he was joined by parishioners and family in celebrating the 60th anniversary of his ordination.
Father had a great love for the beauty of creation. He appreciated the works of God as he traveled to many foreign countries and in his daily walks where he lived. He was known to say: “Exercise is good for the body and for the soul.”
Fr. Donald is survived by his brother Gerald Wieber of Fowler, MI; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clara (Knoop) Wieber, and eight brothers and sisters: Fr. Elmer Wieber, Sister Bernita Wieber, Sister Esther Wieber, Magdalene and Harold Armbrustmacher, Irene and Sylvester Thelen, Romilda and Leonard Pung, Arnold and Dorothy Wieber, Eugene Wieber, and his sister in-law Doris Wieber.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, MI, on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. with Most Rev. Edward Lohse presiding. Burial will take place at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fowler, MI. Visitation will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church , Fowler, MI, on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 2-6 P.M. with a Scripture Service held at 6:00 P.M. at the church.
