Phillip Wynn Derby

Age 68, our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away May 17, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Phillip was born October 29, 1943 in Alma, MI the son of Vincent and Isabel  (Patterson) Derby.

Phillip was a resident of the Ithaca area his whole life. He retired from Consumers Energy after more than 30 years of service. While in High School he met and married the love of his life Muriel Schleder. They were married on May 16 ^th , 1964 at the united Methodist Church. Together they raised four children, three who survived him; Shari (Kevin) Bentoske. Michelle (Mark) Fairchild and Matthew (Brandi) Derby and 10 greatly loved grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Carolyn Otterbine of Mt. Pleasant and Martha (Gordon) Ward of Alma; and brother Mark (Diane) Derby of Gaylord.

He was proceeded in death by his son David, sister Sally, parents and father-in-law.

Phil loved biking, camping, farming, and taking many adventurous spur-of-the-moment road trips. He worked harder than anyone and enjoyed serving others through labor and love.

Dad, we all love you very much and will keep your smiles, humor and memories forever close in our hearts.  We will see you in heaven, love you!

Officiating the service Rev. Dave McBride, Rev. Cindi Greene and Mark Monroe.  Phil attended the Ithaca United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers Memorials should be made to the Ithaca United Methodist  Church and Commission on Aging . Visitation will be held Sunday, May 20, 1-3 pm with a Celebration of Life Memorial at 3:00 pm at the Ithaca United Methodist Church.
