Ora Larry Root

      Ora Larry Root, age 79, of St. Louis, MI, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2023, at his home.

     A cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Ora will be buried beside his wife Sharon at Strong Cemetery, Weidman, MI.

     Ora was born in Barryton, Michigan on March 22, 1943, the son of Dale Eugene and Edna Viola (Gunkel) Root. He resided most of his life in the Gratiot County area. He retired from General Motors after 35 years of employment.  On November 12, 1970, Ora married Sharon Stonerock at Coe Church of Christ in St. Louis. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2015, after forty-five years of marriage.

     Ora was a farmer at heart. He loved working on his farm and watching Westerns, especially John Wayne. He enjoyed bluegrass music. In his younger days, he tried his hand at racing and participated in Frontier Reenacting and took his family on the Wagon Train. He liked to fish and hunt. But the greatest joy in his life was his five daughters.

     He is survived by his four daughters: Roxie (Terry) Miller of Rusk, TX; Renece Root of Breckenridge, MI; Lucy Root of Lake, MI; and Debby Farrar of Denver, CO; eleven grandchildren: Craig Miller, Phillip Miller, Ashlynn Miller, Desiree Carroll, Luke Carroll, Jessica Chaput, Amber Holley, Johnathan Holley, Samantha Holley, Nicholas Alt, and Sara Duncan; and sixteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by five siblings: Duane Root, Eugene Root, Delores (Jack) Smith and Janet (Walt) Jenks; sister-in-law Barb Root, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharon, daughter DeAnn Viola Root, brother Harry Root, sisters-in-law: Berdella Root, and Helen Root.
