St. Johns

Olga Martinez passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at 90 years old on Sunday, February 25, 2024, in Saint Johns, Michigan.

Olga was born March 10, 1933 in Monterrey, the capital of the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo León. As the daughter of Juanita Maciel Mascareño, from her earliest days Olga was known for her beauty, grace, and gentle spirit.

She eventually came to the United States where she met and fell in love with Ignacio Martinez, Sr. They married on April 15, 1946, and were blessed with 63 years of marriage prior to his passing on December 9,

2009.   Olga’s life is a testament to one of generosity, selflessness, and work ethic.

She was an active member of the community as part of the Virgen de Guadalupe Guild at St. Joseph’s church where she would lead monthly rosaries, help with funeral dinners, and support outreach efforts to the local Hispanic community. She was also very involved with the Clinton County migrant program, and in the summer months, she worked alongside her children and family at the Livingston Farms fields in Saint Johns. Above all else, Olga cherished her role as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend.

Olga is survived by her beloved nine children: Ignacio “Joe”; Jr. (Karen) Martinez, Juanita (Ramiro) Ferreira, Ricardo (Brenda) Martinez, Rosa (Daniel) Fedewa, Gilbert (Brenda) Martinez, Sally (Frank) Sanchez,  Elvira (Jeff) Jones, Reuben (Pamela) Martinez, Marty (Linda) Martinez, and daughter-in-law Gianna Martinez; in addition to, 57 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, brother Ruben Zarazua, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ignacio Martinez, Sr., son Carlos Martinez and siblings Elvira, Lupe, and Maximo.  Olga’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly, gently guiding us to remember to live a life of kindness and love.

A Mass of Christian Burial and a Celebration of Olga’s life will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Linden St, St Johns, MI 48879, with Rev.
