Muriel M. Sherwood, age 93, of Ithaca, passed away June 29, 2013, at Masonic Pathways in Alma, with her family at her side.
Muriel was born February 13, 1920, in St. Johns, the daughter of Everett and Evalina Strong.  She married Karl Simcox on October 2, 1937, and later Ray Sherwood on January 5, 1974.
Muriel was a Licensed Practical Nurse, practicing her profession for twenty three years at Gratiot Community Hospital, retiring in 1986.    She volunteered at the hospital for an additional ten years after her retirement.  She acquired many cherished friends during those years at the hospital.
Muriel is survived by her three children, Ray (Kathy) Simcox, Janet (Al) Cowdrey, and Jim (Carolyn) Simcox, and daughter-in-law, Joan Simcox; eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.  She enjoyed her family, spending time with them and caring for them throughout her life.  She also enjoyed walking, working in her flower beds, feeding birds, and watching sports on television, especially the Detroit Tigers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Karl Simcox; her second husband, Ray Sherwood; her son, Roger Simcox; her grandson, Jeff Simcox; her sister , Imogene Webb; and her brother, Durwood Strong.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at the Ithaca Church of God, with Pastor James Conn officiating.  Interment will follow in North Star Cemetery.  Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 1, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, and Tuesday at the Ithaca Church of God from 10 a.m. until time of service.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Ithaca Church of God.
