Mildred A. (Bodfish) Gross, 102, of St. Louis, formerly of Breckenridge, went to be with her Savior on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Schnepp Health Care Center in St. Louis. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Pastor John Eich will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Smith Family Funeral Homes, 117 N. East St., St. Louis, MI. Interment will be at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge.

She was born November 9, 1910, in Breckenridge, the daughter of Frank and Nellie Bodfish. She grew up in the Breckenridge area, moving to Ashley in 1919 and then to Coleman in 1925. Mrs. Gross graduated from Coleman High School, class of 1926. She attended Central Michigan Teachers College, Mt. Pleasant, receiving a Life Teaching Certificate in 1928. Years later, she received her BA degree from CMU in July 1960. She first taught in Farwell and then the Charlevoix Public Schools from 1929 through 1932. She married Elmer Gross on September 10, 1932 at St. James Church, Saginaw. They lived in Saginaw until they moved to Coleman in 1934. They moved to the Gross family farm in the Breckenridge area in 1941 raising their family there. Mrs. Gross and her daughter, Marian, moved to St. Louis in 1976. Mrs. Gross taught seventh and eighth graders at Breckenridge Public Schools from 1956 to 1973 when she retired. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, St. Louis, Grace Lutheran, Alma, and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Alma. She especially loved reading, visiting with her family and many friends and traveling after her retirement, enjoying trips to England, Germany, Russia, Yugoslavia and Italy.

She is survived by five children; Herman Gross of Seattle, Washington; Maxine Curtis of Glenview, Illinois; Raymond (Carol) Gross of Kennewick, Washington; Carl (Linda) Gross of Roseville, California; and Marian Gross of St. Louis; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer on Sept. 13, 1969; an infant daughter, Virginia on March 15, 1936; daughter, Margaret King Rinehart, Prescott, Arizona on March 22, 2002; a sister, Dorothy Fike Sawyer on June 15, 1986; and her brother, George Bodfish, Charlotte, N.C. on Feb. 27, 1987.
