Michael James Hoort

     Michael (Mike) James Hoort, age 62, of St. Johns, MI, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Michigan Medicine, Ann Arbor, MI.
     Per Mike’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at Pilgrim Global Methodist Church, 2965 West Parks Road, St. Johns, MI, on May 18th 2025, at 2:30 P.M. 
     Michael was born in Kalamazoo MI on April 20, 1962, the son of James E. Hoort and Judith Nellie (Hoogenboom) Badalamente. He graduated from Portland High School. He married the love of his life, LaTonya (Limon) Hoort, on December 29, 1994; they were married in Toledo, Ohio. They just celebrated 30 years of marriage together while raising four wonderful children. They enjoyed spending all their free time together and with family.
     Mike was a semi-truck driver before retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and anything that would require him to spend his free time outdoors. Mike would make simple task into adventures, as he would always want to do projects for his children. His children will always remember him as being the “passionate YouTube MacGyver”. He absolutely loved spending time with his grandchildren because he was truly a dedicated family man.
     He is survived by his wife LaTonya Hoort of St. Johns, MI; his four children: Christopher (Heidi) Hoort of Belleville, MI; Angus (Jessica) Lake of St. Johns, MI; LaTaysha (Alex) Cisneros of St. Johns, MI; and Aryn (Brandon) Walter of St. Johns, MI; his siblings: Michele (Mark) Witbeck of Portland, MI; Brian (Nicki) Hofkamp of Ionia, MI; Melissa (Scott) Champine of St. Clair Shores, MI; Matt Hofkamp of Ionia, MI; Joe (Amanda) Badalamente of St. Clair Shores, MI; Becky (Andrew) Edenburn of Ortonville, MI; Daniel Badalamente of MI; Anthony (Tammy) Limon of Moorseville, NC; LaTasha Cantu of St. Johns, MI; LaTavia (Jeff) Allen of Fountain Hills, AZ; his mother: Carol Hoort of Ionia, MI; his mother-in-law Linda Limon of St. Johns, MI; and father-in-law Anthony (Shelley) Limon of Laingsburg, MI. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Angus,LaTayana, Colton, KyeLynn, Logan, Owyn, Cora, Joey, Hudson, Camden, Hailey, Elwyn, and Baby Hoort on the way in September. His nieces and nephews: Anika, Megan, Emily, Isabella, Taylah, Zayda, Kyrah, Mykah, LaTeasha, Griffin, Anthony, Dakota, Leland, Joey, Gavin, and Bella. He was preceded in death by his parents: James Hoort and Judith (Daniel) Badalamente.
