Michael Thomas Brecht

November 1, 1962 — October 13, 2025

Sumner

Michael Thomas “Mike” Brecht, age 62, of Sumner, Michigan, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025, at University of Michigan Health–Sparrow in Lansing.
A memorial will be held at Nativity of the Lord Parish, Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Louis, Michigan, on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 3 P.M., with visitation held the hour prior to the service.
Mike was born on November 1, 1962, the son of Kenneth Max and Doris J. (Sutherland) Brecht. On January 6, 1996, he married the love of his life, Lisa Ramirez, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alma.
Mike was a hardworking man and had a deep respect for the land. Farming wasn’t just his career—it was his calling. He found purpose and peace in tending his fields, raising crops, and caring for his animals. Whether out hunting, fishing, or raising his beloved hunting dogs, Mike loved to be home. He was a true steward of the earth and took quiet pride in his beautiful land.
Above all, Mike was a devoted family man. After the death of his father, he stepped up to care for his family becoming a loyal son, a protective brother, and later, a loving husband and proud father. One of his greatest joys was supporting his daughter through college, ensuring she had the opportunities he worked so hard to provide. His strength and sense of duty carried through every chapter of his life.
Everyone who knew Mike will remember him in his hat, surrounded by his dogs, content to be at home—his favorite place in the world. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, who will forever remember his strong will, steady presence, and the love he gave in his own quiet way.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Brecht; daughter, Tasha (David) Saganski; mother, Doris Brecht; sister, Jeanne (Jeff) Clark; brother, Christopher (Lori) Brecht. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Brecht.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Mike’s memory may make contributions to Brecht Farms; helping to continue the work and land he loved so deeply, Brecht Farms c/o Lisa Brecht 420 South Warner Sumner, MI 48889.
