Maynard Gene Failing was born in the doctor's office over the dime store in St. Louis, Michigan on Oct.30, 1934.

He married his high school sweetheart,  and wife of 68 years, Joyce Myers on August 8, 1952.

He worked at the Michigan Chemical plant, served  in the National Guard for 12 years, was a trucker for many years, then retired from the Michigan Corrections Food Service. He was also a rancher and horseman.

Many people will remember  that he traveled the area in the summer in a pioneer wagon and beautiful horses. He went by the name of Salt Lake Sam, and his friend,  Fred  McCloud was Flatcar Fred.

Maynard and Joyce also served a one year mission  for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Nauvoo ,Illinois. Maynard drove wagon teams and told pioneer stories.

Maynard was preceeded  in death by two baby boys, Mark and Matthew, his brothers,  Carlos and Deward, a grandson, Cameron, and his parents, Dewey and Edna Failing.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Joyce, sons Maynard  Scott  Failing, Jared Failing,  daughter Cindie Alldredge.he has 18 grandchildren,  and 19 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint in Greenville, Michigan.
