Max Roth Mills

     Max Roth Mills, age 88, of Ithaca, MI, passed away Monday, July 27, 2026, at his home.
     A Graveside Service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, August 3, 2026. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 11:00 A.M. until 12:45 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI.
     Max was born in Ithaca, Michigan on June 5, 1938, the son of Roth E. and Ethel Irene (Myers) Mills. He graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1956. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves after high school.
     Max was a lifelong farmer in Gratiot County. He loved hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. Over the years, Max participated on the Ithaca School Board, served as president of the board at B & W Co-Op, was a member of the A-Tractive Tractor Club and enjoyed pulling antique tractors. He spent most of his free time following his grandchildren's sporting events and activities. Most of all, he loved his family and time spent with them. He will be remembered for the many stories and jokes he shared.
     He is survived by his children: Marcy and Gary Skinner, Linda and John Stoneman, and Matt and Tami Mills; grandchildren: Jessi and Fabian LaVigne, Brent and Jessica Skinner, Cody and Arielle Skinner, Hana and Trevor Kindy, Kramer and Heather Stoneman, Casey and Ryan Longanbach, Logan and Kelsey Mills, and Taylor and Lucas Hirschman; and his sister Berniece and Robert Peltier. He is also survived by step-grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his beloved "Cat". He was preceded in death by his parents Roth and Ethel Mills, daughter Lorie Jesson, granddaughter Laine Stoneman and sister Shirley Eichorn.
