Mary was born in Flint, MI, on March 30, 1939, the daughter of Louis Lugwig and Marguerite Mary (Corey) Marks. She graduated from Saginaw High School then went on to raise four wonderful children before returning to school. In the 1970s, Mary attended Lansing Community College. She received an associate’s degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse, and would go on to work at Ingham Medical Center Orthopedic Floor for over 21 years before her retirement. On April 19, 1957, Mary married the love of her life, Richard Lee Cornwell. They spent 55 wonderful years together prior to his passing on January 16, 2013.
Mary had a passion for traveling, especially with her siblings. Many Vegas trips to the casinos were taken over the years. At home, she could be found scrapbooking at the kitchen table, or spending time around the fire pit at Derby Lake. She always looked forward to the Marks-Fischer reunions, Christmases, and any reason to get together with her family.
She is survived by her children: Tara Cornwell, Lorrie Polinkus, and Lance Cornwell; her grandchildren: Brook Polinkus, Holly Polinkus, Christopher Cornwell, Samantha Cornwell, and Alexandra Cornwell; and her step-granddaughter Christine Davis. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Kali Polinkus, Ayva Polinkus, Nova Polinkus, Eliya Dean, Xavier Dean, and Ava Villarreal; and many nieces and nephews.
