Martha Elizabeth Anderson, 81, of St. Louis, MI, passed away Friday, April 24, 2026.
Funeral Services will be held at at Beebe United Methodist Church, Ithaca, MI at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 4, 2026. Burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Emerson Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from 4-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis, MI.
Martha was born in Alma, MI on October 25, 1944. She was the daughter of Cecil Harmon and Audrey K. (Shaver) Knapp. Martha graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1963.
She was the widow of Lowell Francis Anderson. On November 2, 1963, they were married at First Baptist Church in Alma, MI. They were blessed with sixty years of marriage, prior to his passing on March 28, 2024.
As a homemaker, Martha was a devoted partner to her husband, offering steady support both at home and on the farm, always ensuring that no one went without a meal. She was equally dedicated to her children and grandchildren, faithfully attending and encouraging them in their many activities and accomplishments.
An avid gardener, Martha took great pride in growing and preserving much of her family’s food. Her love of flowers was especially evident, ultimately leading her to become a master gardener. Martha was also deeply creative and found joy in sewing and a variety of crafts, including stained glass and basket weaving. She delighted in decorating for each holiday and had a special gift for making every season feel meaningful and festive.
She loved to travel, exploring places close to home as well as abroad, including trips to Japan and Scotland with her husband. She also cherished opportunities to visit her granddaughters during their time in China, France, and New York City. Martha had a genuine curiosity about the world, with a particular appreciation for learning about other cultures and enjoying their cuisine.
A lifelong member of Beebe United Methodist Church, Martha found great comfort and joy in her church family.
She will be remembered as adventurous, loving, and a true peacemaker—both within her family and among all who knew her.
She is survived by her children: Amy (Kerry) Komperda of St. Louis, MI; Steven Anderson, of St. Louis, MI; Eric Anderson of Toledo, OH; and Jennifer Young of Alma, MI; her grandchildren: Janelle, Courtney, Kyla, Nicholas, Owen, Nate, Gabe, and Audrey; and great-grandchildren: Echo and Zane. She is also survived by her brother Jon (Laura) Knapp Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband Lowell; her parents; brother Wayne Knapp; and and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Powers.
