Marla D. Carey - Pendell

On the early morning of June 7, 2014, Marla passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by loved ones after her battle with cancer. Marla was 62 years old.

Marla was born on March 22, 1952, at Offutt Air Force Base in Iowa. She was the first child of Marlin and Norma (Randall) Carey. She married Douglas Pendell on April 9, 2007.

Marla graduated from Stevenson High School in Livonia, Michigan. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s in Education from Central Michigan University. She received her Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University. Marla spent most of her teaching career in Livonia Public School District, and retired in 2007.

Marla was preceded in death by her father, Marlin Carey, and her sister, Nancy Schummer. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Pendell; her mother, Norma; her nephew, Kurt, Sarah, and Kenzie Marlin; her niece, Stephanie Schummer; and her beloved friend, Pat Keith. Also survived by her children and grandchildren, Leigh and Kirk Olson, Eric, Josh and Dane Macha, Tony, Patti, Kelsey and Jonathan Leja, Ellen, Mark, Allyson and Hannah Lesnau, and Carla, James, Katie and Jacob Patrick.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. There will also be visitation Monday June 9, from 4-8pm at the RG and GR Harris Funeral Home in Livonia. Memorial contributions may be made to Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund of Gratiot County or to Mid-Michigan Hospice. Funeral services will be 11am, Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the RG and GR Harris Funeral Home in Livonia. Interment will be in Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia.
