Mark Edward Roberts, age 74, of Elwell, MI, was promoted to Heaven on Friday, August 14, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life at Alma United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Lori Sykes and Renee Hahn officiating.
Mark was born in Port Huron, Michigan on April 21, 1952, the son of James A. and Daroleen E. (Hess) Roberts. Mark married the love of his life, Brenda L. Compeau, on December 18, 1976, in Flint, MI.
He was a member of Alma United Methodist Church, where he also participated in the choir. After being diagnosed with vascular dementia, Mark found purpose in using his experience to help others as a founding member of the National Council of Dementia Minds, a national nonprofit founded and governed by persons living with dementia. He also served on its Board of Directors and was passionate about helping others discover that life with dementia could hold meaning, purpose, and connection. Mark believed deeply in educating others about dementia, and his commitment to helping others will continue through his decision to donate his body to MSU Medical School for education and research. The woods and the river were his sanctuary, and he passed his love of fishing and hunting on to his grandsons. The most important things in his life were his family and his faith.
He is survived by his wife Brenda Roberts, daughters: Tracey and Brian Fuller, and Katey Thompson; grandchildren: Brandon and Alyssa Fuller, Justin Fuller, Chloe Thompson, and Dylan (DJ) Thompson; great-granddaughter Kinsley Fuller, sister Diana and Curt Cannon, special niece Amy and Marcela (Sanders) Cannon, and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Daroleen Roberts and grandparents Joe and Gladys Hess.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Council of Dementia Minds, 6077 Wildwood Drive Elwell, MI 48832. Online condolences can be sent www.smithfamilyfuneralhomes.com. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Alma, Michigan.
