Marjorie Jean Goostrey, our beloved mother, entered heaven’s gate March 29, 2018. She took her last breath as her family sang “In The Garden,” her favorite hymn.
Marjorie was born June 30, 1925, to Verne and Cordie (Cowdrey) Parling. She married Richard B. Goostrey November 7, 1942. Together they selflessly raised six children: Donald P. Goostrey, Jeffrey V. Goostrey, Nancy J. Allen, Stephen R. Goostrey, Susan J. Greear, and Lisa K. Goostrey.
Marjorie and Richard owned and operated Dick’s Studio and Camera Shop of Ithaca.
Marjorie was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ithaca. She had a love for baking, sewing, gardening, oil painted portraits, and taking long Sunday drives and eating out, especially at the Country Chef in Ithaca where she was treated so wonderful by Carol, Autumn, and Corrine.
A wife, mother, business woman, and homemaker, Marjorie was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her cinnamon rolls and oatmeal cookies.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for their loving care of our mother.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ithaca, with The Reverend Mary Ann Evans-Justin and Pastor Jeffrey T. Macha officiating. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m., and there will be a dinner following the service. She will be laid to rest in Ithaca Cemetery, beside her husband, Richard, and her son, Jeffrey, who preceded her in death.
The Goostrey family is being served by the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Online condolences may be left at bardenfuneralhome.com .
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Heartland Hospice.
