Lynn David Cox

      Lynn David Cox, age 67, of Laingsburg, MI, passed away Friday, June 28, 2024, at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, St. Johns, MI. 

      Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 6, 2024, with Pastor Joyce Wallace officiating, with visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M. prior to the service.

       Lynn was born in St. Johns, Michigan on January 1, 1957, the son of Leo Dewane and Mary Lou (Jorae) Cox. He graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School with the Class of 1975. On April 25, 1987, Lynn married Jane Elizabeth Potter at the United Church of Ovid. They have been married thirty-seven years.

      Lynn was a gifted mechanic. He began his career as a mechanic at Story Oldsmobile in Lansing. He later worked at Harrelson's Chevrolet and Young's Chevrolet of Owosso. He retired in 2008. Lynn was a Cub Scout Den Leader and assistant Cub Master for Pack #240. He was also the assistant Scout Master for Troop #85. He especially enjoyed the camp outs with his son Matthew and the other scouts. He also spent many years volunteering at the Shiawassee County Fair.

      Lynn enjoyed snowmobiling in the UP, camping, NASCAR, Detroit Tigers' baseball, and Hallmark movies. Most of all, he loved his family and time with the grandsons.

      He is survived by his wife Jane, son Matthew (Jessica) Cox of Fowlerville, MI; and 3 grandsons: Mason, Spencer, and Easton. He is also survived by sisters: Linda (Chad) Spawr, and Brenda Birchman; brothers: Dennis Cox and Leo "Ron" Cox; sisters-in-law: Karen Potter, Donna (Andy Sipka) Potter, and Jenny (Jeff) Waybright; brother-in-law Alan (Valerie) Potter, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Nathaniel, brother-in-law Lyle Birchman, and in-laws Kaye and Helen Potter.
