Lyle R. “Red” Gotts, age 88, of Ithaca, died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Masonic Pathways in Alma. Red was born May 16, 1922, in Lakefield Township of Saginaw County, the son of Carl and Bertha (Horner) Gotts. During WWII Red served in the Army as a heavy truck driver in New Guinea and the southern Phillipines. After returning home he drove truck for Saginaw Transfer and stayed with the company after they were purchased by Consolidated, retiring in 1983. He started driving for Patient Equipment Locker in Alma in 1988 until 1993. Red was an active member in the Moose Lodge, Eagles, Ithaca Masonic Lodge #123, and Shriner’s. He is survived by his three children, Carla (Bill) Reus of Florida, Cathy (Darrell) Currier of Gaylord, and Tom (Sue) Gotts of Perrinton; grandchildren; and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; two brothers, Carl and Dennis Gotts; and a daughter, Connie Jo Bowen. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Pastor Dave Perry officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s.
