Lowell Lawrence Berry

     Lowell Lawrence Berry, age 80, of Roscommon, MI, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
     Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, with Pastor Keith Lenard officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Alma, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
     Lowell was born in Alma, MI on December 19, 1945, the son of James and Theora Christine (Strack) Berry. He graduated from Ithaca High School, then went on to earn a bachelors from Ferris State University, then a degree in teaching from Michigan State University. Lowell served in the Vietnam War with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (Blackhorse Regiment) from 1968-1969. He went on to receive many awards and medals for his service, including the Purple Heart, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, Air Medal with Valor, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars. He was very proud of his service to his country. On December 18, 1976, he married Deborah Ann (Snow) Berry at the People's Church in East Lansing, MI.
     Lowell was always outside. From the east side to the west, from the Upper Peninsula to the Indiana border, Lowell and Deborah camped across the entire state of Michigan. They were also a part of a sailing group on Torch Lake, and enjoyed boating on Higgins Lake where his cottage was.
     Lowell valued nature, but he also valued the Detroit Lions and NASCAR. If he wasn't working on his lawn or gardening, he was watching a race, or cheering on his favorite football team.
     A social butterfly, Lowell could easily turn strangers into friends no matter where he was. He was very involved with his kids and grandchildren, and learned to love whatever they were interested in.  Connection and family were what Lowell valued the most. He will always be remembered as a caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
     He is survived by his loving wife Deborah Berry; his children: Heather (Kyle Gillon) Berry, and Robb (Heidi) Berry; grandchildren: Grant Berry, Emma Berry, and Levi Berry; and many extended family members. Lowell was preceded in death by parents James and Theora Berry; sister Anne Berry; and grandparents Emma and Lawrence Berry.
