Lionel Duane “Stub” Olson, Sr.

Lionel Duane “Stub” Olson, Sr. from Ithaca, passed away September 9, 2014 at the age of 80.

He was born on March 27, 1934 in Lafayette Township to James and Ada (Johnson) Olson. He was the fifth of five brothers.

Lionel was married on November 18, 1962 to Donna Kimmel from Ithaca. He raised three children and took pride in his family.

He was quick witted with a mischievous sense of humor. He was very interested in current events the news being a priority. He loved the Tigers, gardening, and playing cards. He was in the Army and served in Germany.

He spent most of his years working road construction, and later years farming. He loved his family and his great granddaughter Stormy was the apple of his eye. His health tried to constrict him, but his will was always stronger.

Lionel was preceded in death by his wife Donna; parents James and Ada, four brothers, Ola, Vershal, LG, and Basil. His legacy is carried on through his son Lionel (Robin) Olson, Jr. from Ovid; two daughters Lisa (Larry) Marshke from New Baltimore, and Debra Strickland from Huntsville, Alabama; James Murgittroyd from Fredricksburg, Virginia; eight grandchildren Lesa, Johnny, Julie, Sami, Zachary, Sarah, Nicholas, Jon; nine great grandchildren Jamie, Justin, Alissa, Kassondra, Hannah, Jacob, Hailey, Noella, Mila; and three great great grandchildren Emalynn, Brady, and Caleb.

Funeral services for Lionel will be 11am, Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca and burial will follow at Ithaca Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-4pm and 6-8pm Thursday, September 11 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Activity Building.
