Leander Anthony Ockert, age 89, of Alma, MI passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Masonic Pathways, Alma, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Louis, MI on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Fr. Nate Harburg officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday January 31, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI, and also at the church on Monday an hour prior to the service. A rosary will be prayed Sunday evening at 7:30 at the funeral home.
Leander was born in Wheatland Township, Michigan on April 30, 1926, the son of Albert and Clara (Bieschke) Ockert. He married Glenna (Oberlin) Ockert on June 15, 1946 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Remus, MI.
Leander retired from Consumers Energy after 34 years of service. During retirement he enjoyed traveling the United States. He enjoyed hunting,fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Local 129 utility workers union, the NRA and Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church St. Louis, MI
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Glenna Ockert of Alma, MI, children; Paul Ockert of Alma, MI, Leo Ockert of Alma, MI, John and Michele Ockert of St. Louis, MI, 7 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and brother Bernard and Maurine Ockert of Allegan, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Betty Ockert and daughter in law Shirley Ockert.
