In Loving Memory of Larry Trexler
Larry Trexler, age 96, of Ithaca, Michigan, lived a long and meaningful life marked by dedication, integrity, service to his community, and an enduring love for his family.
A lifelong resident of Ithaca, Larry built both his career and his life around the community he called home. Larry graduated from Ithaca High School in 1947. He then attended Western Michigan College of Education graduating with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1951. He also attended the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.
Larry’s first job was working in the family hardware store in Ithaca, Larry’s Hardware, as a clerk and manager.
Larry began his career in banking as a teller in 1956, and through years of hard work, commitment, and dedication, he rose to become the president of Commercial National Bank in Ithaca and retired after 30 years of service. He was a real estate broker for three years before returning to banking as a senior vice president at the Bank of Alma for five years. He then retired for the last time. His professional journey was a testament to his strong work ethic, character, and the respect he earned throughout his career.
Larry was also deeply committed to serving his community. Throughout his life, he served on numerous boards and committees, giving generously of his time and talents. He believed in doing what was right and lived by strong moral principles. He was a man of integrity, a devoted public servant, and a friend to everyone he met. His warmth, kindness, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.
Beyond his professional accomplishments and community service, Larry had a true passion for aviation. Building and flying airplanes was much more than a hobby; it was a life-long love. Over the years he built, bought, and flew numerous airplanes, embracing the freedom, challenge, and joy that flying brought him. Aviation was an important part of who he was and a reflection of his curiosity, determination, and adventurous spirit. Above all, Larry was a devoted family man and a wonderful father. His family was a source of great pride and joy throughout his life. He will be remembered not only for all he accomplished but also for the values he lived by, the friendships he formed, and the love he gave so freely. He lived a life to be proud of, setting an example of honesty, kindness, hard work, and devotion to others.
He is survived by his son Scott Trexler and his wife Terrie (Walls) Trexler; and his son David Trexler and his wife Glenda (Gushen) Trexler; his grandson Joshua Trexler and his wife Stephanie (Mushna) Trexler; and his two beautiful great-granddaughters. He is also survived by his sister Kathryn (Trexler) Moreman and her husband S.J. Moreman. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Norman Trexler and Margaret (Larry) Trexler; his beloved wife of 68 years Coleen (Cumming) Trexler.
Larry’s life was a remarkable journey of family, friendship, service, and a love of flying. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, generosity, and devotion that will continue through the generations of his family and the many lives he touched.
