Keith Raymond Peters, age 91, of Ithaca, MI, passed away Monday, April 7, 2025, at Maple View Assisted Living, Ithaca, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul’s Apostle Catholic Church, Ithaca, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 11, 2025, with Rev. Fr. Edwin Dwyer presiding. Burial will take place at Ithaca Cemetery, Ithaca, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Keith was born in Imlay City, MI on July 25, 1933, the son of Ray Warren and Lydia Amarillys (Simons) Peters. He attended a small 1 room country school for 4 years and then went to high school in Elsie where he graduated in 1951. On June 26, 1954, Keith married Mary Theresa Wingle at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Ithaca, Michigan. He loved fishing, hunting and restoring old tractors. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Keith was an insurance Agency Manager for Farm Bureau Insurance for 34 years. He also was a Great Lakes Charter Boat Captain out of Onekama for 15 years. Keith was a Boy Scout leader and a 4-H leader for many years. He was a Ashley School Board member, Carson City Hospital Board Member, a charter member of the A Tractive tractor club, Ashley Lions Club and Michigan Charter Boat Captain Association. He was a member of St. Paul’s Apostle Catholic Church Ithaca where he also was a board member.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Ithaca, MI; son David Alan (Teresa) Peters of Crystal, MI; daughter Sheri Lynn (John) Carey of Mt. Pleasant, MI; and son Jeffrey Paul (Lisa) Peters of Ithaca, MI; six grandchildren: Brandon (Keisha) Peters, Breanna Rule, Carol Anne (Brandon) Freeman, Aaron Peters, Matthew (Michelle) Carey, and Lucas (Amanda) Carey; six great-grandchildren: Grant Peters, Elyse Peters, Liam Rule, Emileigh Freeman, Jude Freeman, and Isabelle Carey. He is also survived by his siblings: Barbara Stuckey and Richard Peters and brothers and sisters-in-law: Dave Green, Frances (Christopher) Kimball, Richard Wingle, Ed Daggett, and Mary Ellen Wingle. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Adam Peters, siblings: James (Joyce) Peters, Dorothy (John) Mitchell, and Gayle Green.
