Kathryn Edna "Kathy" Tyler, age 68, of Elsie, MI, passed away Friday, January 30, 2026, at University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Lansing, MI.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Kathy was born in Lansing, Michigan on March 12, 1957, the daughter of George Robert and Dorothy Gene (Walker) Harmon. Kathy graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School with the class of 1975. She married Jack Leroy Tyler on December 24, 1977, in Elsie, MI. They were blessed with 45 years of marriage, prior to his passing on February 15, 2023.
Kathy and Jack owned and operated Tyler's Diner from 2001-2009, in Elsie where they made many life long friendships. They served as grand marshals for the Elsie Dairy Festival in 2008. She loved caning chairs, crocheting, Taco Tuesday with friends and monthly breakfast gatherings with the George family. She was a member of the Elsie United Methodist Church where she helped with funeral luncheons and was a member of the Spile Dam Club. Kathy will be remembered for her willingness to help where needed and being a friend to everyone.
She is survived by her children: Donna Smith, Elizabeth and Timothy Heinze, and Shayne and Debbie Tyler; her grandchildren: Serina, Alex (LaTonya), Jacinda (Alex), Shelbie (Ben), Jasmine, and Kariana; and great-grandchildren: Ava, Ezra, and David. She is also survived by her siblings: Richard Harmon, Mary and Rex Tyler, Bill and Tammi Harmon, sister-in-law Jacqueline Souders. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, her grandchildren: Tyler, Katie and Faith Heinze and brother Frank Harmon.
