Josephine Sheldon

Josephine Sheldon, age 86, of Owosso, MI, passed away Monday, January 6, 2020, at her home.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Ovid, on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Tim Dickenson and Pastor Robert Metevia officiating.  Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, MI.  Visitation will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI.

Josephine was born in Ithaca, MI on March 9, 1933, the daughter of Edward Ornelas and Mary (Luna) Ornelas.  She graduated from Ovid High School with the class of 1952.  She was married to William Sheldon. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ovid, MI.

Jo worked for Universal Electric in Owosso for over 40 years.  She loved polka music, and was an avid sports fan, mostly football, and men and women's basketball, but what she loved most was softball.  Jo was a great softball player with pitching as her specialty.  She played for teams in Ovid and Owosso from 1959-1966, leading teams to several wins and championships.  She also loved NASCAR and attended several races.  Her favorite driver was Jeff Gordon.

She is survived by her daughters: Billiejo Sheldon of Jackson, MI; and Susan Sheldon of Owosso, MI; grandchildren: Richard and Tasha Call of Rock Springs, WY; Ariel Call of Owosso, MI; Jennifer Call of Summerville, SC; Jessica McGuire of Seattle, WA; Marci Rowe of Jackson, MI; Jammie Al-Din of Jackson, MI; sisters: Anita Kiter of Owosso, MI; Emma Gordoa of Glendale, AZ; and Rosemary Ornelas of Ovid, MI.  She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren with two more on the way, and 3 step-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Helen Martinez, Edward Ornelas, Eliso "Chum" Ornelas, Oscar Ornelas, and Alfred Ornelas.
