John William "Jack" Redmond

     John William Redmond, age 88, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Monday, November 28, 2022, at McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital, Lansing, MI.

     Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 1, 2022, with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating.  Burial will take place at Deepdale Cemetery, Delta Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, from 6-8 P.M. and also on Thursday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. 

     John was born in Lansing, Michigan on March 12, 1934, the son of Clarence and Alice (Townsend) Redmond. John graduated from Bath High School with the class of 1957. He married Elaine Coffey in September 1958; they were blessed with fifty-six years of marriage prior to her passing on June 6, 2015.

     John enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors, loved animals, gardening and windmill cookies. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races on TV. John and Elaine loved attending old country music concerts together. His grandchildren and great grandchildren brought a smile to his face.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army in Germany from August of 1956 until July of 1958. While serving he earned a sharpshooter badge and a good conduct medal.

     John's family would like to thank the Fresenius Kidney Care St. John's Michigan for the excellent care and service. They would also like to thank Big Boy Restaurant staff of St. Johns for making John feel so special during his multiple weekly visits. 

     He is survived by his children: Lori and Lynn Thurston of St. Johns, MI; Jack and Sally Redmond of Lansing, MI; Penny and Richard French of St. Johns, MI; Melody and Dan Hyland of Muir, MI; and Darla and Dan Fabus of Elsie, MI.  He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, his sister Ann and Tony Weber of Lansing, MI and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elaine, and his brothers: Ed and Don Redmond.
