John D. Meyers

     John D. Meyers, age 83, of Sumner, MI, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center-Gratiot, Alma, MI.
     Per John’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
     John was born in Sumner, MI on August 7, 1943, the son of John Dettmer and Carmelitta Lazzetta (Browne) Meyers. He graduated from Ithaca High School, with the class of 1961. On September 26, 2000, John married Candy Hubbard at Lake Tahoe, and lovingly gave her a hard time for over 26 years. John and Candy split their time between Sumner, MI and Arcadia, FL and loved hosting friends and family in both homes.
     For many years, John worked as the advertising manager for the Gratiot County Herald. He then went on to own and operate the Perrinton Party Store for 13 years until he retired.
     John was an avid outdoorsman, and had many hobbies that kept him outside. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting for deer, snowmobiling, golfing, and taking his family out boating. John was the life of the party and loved to entertain. He could make a mean Bloody Mary.
     He is survived by his wife Candy Meyers; his step-daughter Jody and Shawn Mahoney; his step-grandchildren: Jake Mahoney, Ella Mahoney, and Lily Mahoney; his nephews: Brent Meyers, David and Holly Lindsey-Meyers; and sister-in-law Helen Meyers. He is also survived by his great-nieces and nephews: Andrew Meyers, Matthew Meyers, and Anna Meyers; and many cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents John and Carmelitta Meyers; step-dad Clifford McVeigh; brother Larry Meyers; nephew Todd Meyers, and niece Toni Nelson.
