Jini Larry

Jini Larry, 90, of Ithaca, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in Richmond, California. She had been suffering from Alzheimers the past several years. She developed pneumonia on New Years Day and was not able to recover.

Jini was born on February 12, 1924 in Ithaca, Michigan. Jini graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1942. She was married to her husband Warren Larry, a World War II veteran, on January 13, 1946 in Ithaca, Michigan. They were married for 61 years until his death in December, 2007.

Jini worked full time for 25 years as a retail clerk with her husband Warren, owner of Larrys Hardware of Ithaca, a business passed down from his father. Jini was well known and loved by many friends in town. She will also be remembered for her wonderful harmonizing singing that she did with friends at the Elks Club in Alma, and at other events where there was music. She was a long time member of the Presbyterian Church of Ithaca. She especially enjoyed summer vacations at the family cottage on Whitefish Lake when her children were growing up. When at home, she loved entertaining on her back porch in the yellow house on the corner of Pine River and Emerson Street that was built by her grandfather in the early 1900's.

After her retirement Jini and Warren traveled to Florida in the winter and spent time with some of her sisters who wintered there. They also made frequent trips to California where they enjoyed visiting the sites and spending time with their daughter Gretchen and son in law Scott Carter.

Jini lived her entire life in Ithaca until moving to California in October, 2007 to be near her daughter Gretchen Carter and son in law Scott Carter, who survive her.

She is also survived by her Daughter in Law Ruthanne Larry, Granddaughter Jody Larry, Grandson Jeff Larry and his wife Shawn, Great Grandchildren Morgan Larry, Garr Larry, and Tianna Larry Beane and her husband Chris. She also is survived by Great-Great Grand Sons Gavin Larry, Gabriel Larry, and Ceegan Beane.

She was preceded in death by her husband Warren Larry, son Gordon Larry, parents Howard and Choral Myra Alverson, sisters Elizabeth Schlepp, Margaret (Peg) Schnepp, Myra Reynolds, and brothers Joseph Alverson and Jerry Alverson.

Funeral Service will be 2pm Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at the Presbyterian Church, 218 East Newark Street, Ithaca, Michigan.
